Paul in his letter to the Corinthians wrote about boasting, but not about his qualifications or wisdom from God. Instead, he boasted about his weaknesses and his sufferings while preaching the Word, in order that God’s mercy and glory be displayed. Our Lord uses our shortcomings at times to humble us and to shower us with His mercy, so that we can be reminded of how much we need the Gospel in our daily lives, and how incapable I am to control even the smallest details of my life such as traffic or having a bad hair day. Our God is sufficient, and because I am weak, I am made strong in Him.
2 Corinthians 12
My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness. Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
